"Poole Cockle Trail" An audio/visual presentation by David Warhurst providing a guided tour of the Old Town, tracing its rich heritage by showing important features of the 78 "cockle plaques". The Cockle Trail opened in 1998 to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the town's first charter. The trail gives fascinating insights into the lives of the people of Poole, the shipping trade, international links, World War II, Poole Pottery and a still thriving fishing industry. Many superb buildings built by wealthy merchants date back to the golden age of the port, as do many of the pubs and tales of smuggling! The oldest reference is to an ancient longboat dated to 295BC which was dredged out of the harbour in the 1960s.

"Roaming Free - life betwixt the Grids". by Suzanne Kempe The New Forest is one of our newest National Parks but ponies, donkeys, cattle and pigs have had the right to "roam free" for over 900 years. This beautifully illustrated talk will provide an insight into the people and the animals that make the New Forest unique. Our speaker has lived in the New Forest for the last 30 years and is a practising commoner, that is, has the right to turn ponies out onto the open forest. She breeds New Forest ponies and is a member of the New Forest Pony Judges panel; also judging in Finland and Sweden.
