WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY - "slow down, take a closer look", an illustrated talk by Ian Schulz.
Ian has travelled widely, especially to Africa and the Far East, taking photographs, but in this talk he is concentrating on wildlife in our own area and in our own gardens. The talk will show how anyone with a digital camera can take stunning pictures of the fascinating and abundant wildlife around us, requiring no great expertise and without the need for expensive equipment. There will be time for questions.
Refreshment break with tea/coffee only within cost of £4 per person.

TELEVISION SWITCHOVER FROM ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL - a presentation by Colin Moore.
The phased switchover to digital TV region by region is planned for our area in March 2012. The Government is financially assisting talks in each area to explain the implications. Colin has talked to groups in other regions and will also answer questions to dispel any concerns.
The talk is free but we do need you to book your place in advance and not later than the end of January. If you wish to attend, please telephone the office and give your name and telephone number.

Paul will take you on a nostalgic musical journey from Hollywood to Broadway. Hear the unique Mantovani sound of movie and musical classics.

SOUR AND SWEET by the Tuesday Drama Group - this production is dedicated to the memory of Augusta Smith.
A performance by the Drama Group that meets on Tuesdays will take place in the Hall at the St James Institute.
The performance will comprise three short plays;
"No, why?" by John Whiting is a one act play about a family coming to terms with the unforgivable behaviour of their young son.
Two short melodramas will follow;
"Maria Marten" or "Murder in the Red Barn" and
"The Drunkard's Dilemma" or "Her Honour for Tenpence".
The doors will open at 2.15

MAGISTRATES and the COURTS. A talk by Ann Warner JP - and a subsequent optional visit to a Court on a date to be arranged. Ann will explain what Magistrates do, how they fit into the judicial system, what sentences they hand out and how they come to their decisions. The speaker will give a scenario of an offence, relating it to two "offenders", and the audience will have the chance to express their views as the information evolves. There will be time for questions.
Refreshment break with tea/coffee and biscuits within cost of £3 per person. (the speaker makes no charge but our cost includes a donation to the Courts Service which will be passed on to a Bursary provided for a law student at Bournemouth University)
A subsequent visit to a Court will be arranged, starting at 9.30 and will last for about 2 - 21/2 hours.
